Sumberarum Village, located in Magelang Regency, Central Java, was selected as one of the community service targets by UGM Vocational College in 2024. This program, led by Dr. Umar Taufiq, S.Kom., M.Cs., aims to improve the quality of life of the local community through digital technology. Sumberarum Village holds great potential as a tourist destination due to its natural hot springs with medicinal properties. However, the community faces challenges in promoting local potentials and accessing education. As a solution, a website, https://desasumberarum.com, was developed to promote the village’s assets, including palm sugar products, Islamic boarding schools, and local eateries.
The program, which ran for seven months (May–November 2024), included website operation training for the community, particularly students from local Islamic boarding schools. Furthermore, the well-maintained website content demonstrated the community’s successful adoption of digital technology. This initiative was presented at the 2024 National Seminar on Community Service Results (SNH2PM) and received positive feedback from academics.
Despite its success, further efforts are recommended to address water management challenges, which remain a significant issue for agriculture and livestock in Sumberarum Village. The program contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by training students, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting local products, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by utilizing digital technology for village development.
