Research on Solar-Powered Temperature Monitoring System to Support Smart Farming

One of the key innovations supporting the implementation of technology in modern farming is the development of a solar-powered temperature monitoring system for smart farming. This research was initiated by Dr. Fitri Puspasari, a lecturer in Electrical Engineering Technology at DTEDI SV UGM, together with her team. The main goal of the research is to analyze the energy consumption of the temperature monitoring system using the SI7021 sensor, ESP32 microcontroller, and integrated with the Blynk interface, aiming to create energy efficiency in the management of broiler chicken farming based on smart technology.

The system is designed to utilize solar energy as its primary power source, reducing reliance on conventional electricity. This aligns with the efforts to create environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9, which focuses on clean and affordable energy, SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production, and SDG 13 on climate action.

In this research, the SI7021 sensor is used to monitor temperature and humidity inside the chicken coop, with the data being displayed on an LCD and accessed through the Blynk interface. This interface allows farmers to monitor the condition of the coop in real-time via mobile devices, enabling quicker and more accurate decision-making.

The research is expected to contribute significantly to the development of smart farming in Indonesia, especially in the broiler chicken farming sector. The system is expected to help farmers improve operational efficiency, reduce energy costs, and create a healthier and more comfortable environment for the livestock. Additionally, this system can be adopted by farmers in various regions with limited access to electricity but abundant sunlight.
