Kapita Selekta: Discovering the Importance of Metrology

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at the Vocational School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has successfully conducted a Kapita Selekta event for the Study Programs in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, as well as Electrical Engineering. This event featured skilled metrologist speaker, Ihya Ulumuddin, S.Si, from the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises, Legal Metrology UPTD of Kebumen Regency.

The event took place on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM WIB, attended by 115 participants online with the topic “Let’s Get to Know Metrology!”. The event was moderated by Wijayanti Dwi Astutii, S.Si, M.Sc, Ph.D, who expertly guided the discussion.

Ihya Ulumuddin, an alumnus of the Metrology and Instrumentation Study Program at the Vocational School UGM, currently working as a skilled metrologist, delivered a presentation covering:

  • Metrology in our surroundings
  • What is metrology?
  • Legal metrology
  • Demonstration of metrology

The session concluded with a discussion and Q&A, providing participants with an opportunity to explore the topic further.

This activity also contributes to several points of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • Goal 4: Quality Education: Enhancing understanding and access to metrology knowledge.
  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Encouraging the appropriate use of metrology in industry to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals: Building collaboration between educational institutions and industry sectors to support skill development.
